Many have wondered why I decided to become a trainer. Well, it all started back in May 2011 when I had to go under the knife to fix a severe herniated disc. My right leg had lost 70% of mobility and strength, and I was in excruciating pain 100% of the time. Prior to my surgery I saw every kind of therapist you can think of and, with that, I kept receiving a different diagnostic every single time. This was very discouraging to me. I know what it’s like to get to the point in which you just think this is what life is supposed to be - a life living in pain.
So I opted to go through the surgery and this is where my true passion in life was birthed. Afterwards it was like a light bulb went off; I knew I wanted to help others avoid what I went through and soon after I started educating myself on the fitness industry.
In December 2012 I was reading Todd Durkin’s book and it immediately clicked for me (if you haven’t heard his story, he has a POWERFUL one of overcoming adversity and the challenges he faced when he was left basically paralyzed after a blow on the football field). The second I was done reading his book, I knew exactly what I needed to do. To be honest I had no clue how I would do it, but what I did know is I had this new fire in my belly, yearning to make a difference and inspire as many lives as I possibly could.
After doing some research, I learned about incredible educational opportunities at fitness conventions in the United States. I immediately signed up as I had a desire to learn and spend time around fellow passionate fitness professionals as a way to grow personally and professionally. I’ll never forget my first seminar which was training on the spine; I was completely clueless.I quickly found myself questioning things.
Is this even possible?
Is this really for me?
How am I ever going to learn everything I need to know?
Then I took a step back and realized that all these people have 10, 15, even 20 years of experience in this industry compared to my few months.
Was it going to be easy? Probably not. But what in life worth having is?
Was it going to take time? Oh yes! To truly succeed in anything in life, you must invest time, energy and effort.
Was it going to be worth it? Absolutely! Because when you’re truly passionate about something, the payoff for what you put in is a life of loving what you do and I’ve come to realize that a purpose fueled by passion makes you unstoppable.
Fast forward a couple of years and here we are today, doing my best to inspire lives, make a difference, and help people get pain free and where they want to be.
